Buffoon is an obscure style inspired by Medieval leper colonies and ships of fools, where those who were different—mentally, physically, or socially—were shunned from society. Legend has it they found each other, one by one in the forests or on the waterways, and formed their own strange societies, reflections of our own.
As Tragedy speaks to the Gods, Buffoonery speaks to the Devil. These people are dangerous. They have nothing to lose. They were the King's Fools—the only ones permitted to speak truth to power. Of course they had to be careful. If they went too far it could be fatal. Buffoonery includes the art of folly and mockery predating Commedia dell'Arte and Clown.
This will be an extension of the Ensemble class we have conducted this winter and spring. Serious new performers are welcome!
